I took the RAM out, realized what had happened and turned them back
over. The system worked fine with no burnouts which was surprising. He
is still using that computer and the RAM today.
The PC100 and PC133 sticks can't go in backward unless you break off the
little piece of plastic on the mobo. It does surprise me that you could
get smoke without permanent damage.
