I thought these donations were covering the costs of defending against
the lawsuits brought against wikipedia?

I have been reading Wikipedia quite a lot lately and I have been very
impressed by its coverage for most current topics. I have also been
noticing their banner which shows how much money they have taken in
for the Wikimedia Foundation:

I would guess that they took in about $30,000 last week, but that is a
rough guess based on my noticing their numbers a little bit. I didn't
write them down. I would say that they are taking in money now faster
than they used to. Here is a record for last year:

It's pretty nice for them that they have these donations. It must
allow them to support a small staff. I'm sure this has helped their
development. I am very impressed by their progress. In fact, I would
say that Wikipedia and Google have become my two favorite web sites.
If one of them had to vanish, I would choose Google (just the search
engine) because I can replace Google fairly well with Yahoo Search, etc.
Go Wikipedia!
