Each American's share of our national debt is $28,872.45, or $115,489.80
for the average family of four.
It took us 230 years to get there, sort of, but GW Bush and his Republican
cronies managed to heap about $2.7 trillion onto the debt in only 5 years
from 9/28/2001 to 9/29/2006. That's a 46.5% increase in the national debt
in only 5 years!!! These are official government numbers:
http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/opd/opdpenny.htm
09/29/2006 $8,506,973,899,215.23
09/30/2005 $7,932,709,661,723.50
09/30/2004 $7,379,052,696,330.32
09/30/2003 $6,783,231,062,743.62
09/30/2002 $6,228,235,965,597.16
09/28/2001 $5,807,463,412,200.06
So that means that 5 years of Bush and friends increased the debt by about
a third. Most of the rest came from Reagan and papa Bush. The $2.7
trillion is more than the total debt when Carter left office. In other
words, GW Bush and the Republicans in the Congress added more to the debt
in 5 years than had been added in the 205 years from the Declaration of
Independence to the first year of Reagan's administration.
In only 5 short years GW Bush and the Republican Congress have saddled the
average American family of four with about $36,000 of debt. It is fun to
spend money you don't have. For how long can we keep doing this?
Mike
