Maybe we don't need get there at all, at least not the
way Jonathan has stated it. 

Roomba has a dirt detect sensor and is supposed to
spend more time in a dirty area, until it's cleaned
up. The 3 or so runs I had it out, it covered every
place in the room a few times (you could tell by the
wheel marks on the carpet). So Roomba's behavior is
random kind of like a fly flight is random - you don't
know where it'll go next, but overall there's a
purpose to it. If you watch your X-Files, it is just
what a successful robot is supposed to do.

To answer your other questions, the price currently is
$250 at BB and CC, and $170 on EBay as a refurb.
