I think they changed that part of the law a couple of years ago; you
can see how it could be abused otherwise. So they might clamp down on
me and tell me I can't deduct more than $1K or whatever.  I presume
all the charities do then is auction these off to dealers and yards.

Your Cougar without a rear differential sounds like a truly remarkable car. :-)
