Does Roomba count as a geeky present?

I can't offer an honest review yet, since I have my
in-laws in town, and the floors are just too clean to
give the robot a fair chance at doing its job.

Over the few runs I did, the results were mixed. The
cleaning system is based largely on rotating brushes,
with only a minumum amount of suction, and Roomba
missed a few fairly obvious crums on the carpet.

I wouldn't get too excited about the geeky "open API"
to program the thing, either. It responds to the same
commands that a remote control can give, ie "go
straight", "turn", "clean", and doesn't give access to
any of the sensor data, or Roomba's cleaning
algorithm.

The cool part so far is that it's pretty autonomous,
and will come back to recharge itself.

I'd like this product to succeed, so hopefully I'll
have something more positive to say once we can throw
some dirt its way.
