Well lets see, this morning before I left for work the news reported that yet another Palestinian rocket landed in Isreal, once again violating the cease fire that has been in effect. I say once again, because there have been 14 other such attacks since the proclaimed cease fire. http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L01586509.htm talks about what I saw this morning, some of the details might not be included.

Additionally, they reported that a palestinian who was throwing molatove cocktails at israeli troops was shot and killed.

The writer of this letter says that Palestinians have been driven from their homes, but just last year thousands of Jews were uprooted from their homes in order to give more land to the Palestinian people.

The again, last night I was reading a story about how they were finding brand new weapons straight from the Iranian factories in the hands of the insurgents in Iraq. http://www.iranfocus.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=302 It is very convenient for the writer to say that the US administration is lieing, but everyday our troops as well as Iraqi civilians are being killed by weapons coming across the Iraq border from other countries, Iran included.

So yes, on the surface there are a number of inconsistencies to me that indicates many of the things written in this letter are patently false.

I have not looked into Carter's claims as they are largely inconsequential anyway. Carter had his chance.. on more than one occasion to end the conflict in that region and he was unable to do it. What I cannot do is blame Isreal for their actions when the Iranian backed group kidnapped the isreali soldier. The notion of "Very Soon, This Stain of Disgrace [ i.e. Israel] Will Vanish from the Center of the Islamic World - and This is Attainable"". Those words were penned by the very same person that wrote the letter to the American people is not a concept that a peace loving benevolent leader would be saying if he really meant it.

I know that they (Islamic extremests) do not like the idea of Israel. I am sure they would love nothing more than to have the US stop supporting Israel. I would argue had it not been for Western support of Israel, then these zionist hating individuals would have defeated Israel a long time ago. Iran just wants to have a weakened Israel so Israel can be defeated, eliminate the support coming from the West, in particular the US and that goal is more easily attained.

Frankly, I don't know what the 9,000 people in Israel are being held for, likely even the Iranian president does not know. But if those people were instrumental in causing or harboring terrorist attacks against Israel, then they are being held for a damn good reason. Palestine has to be responsible for their actions and everytime one of their leaders comes out and talks about defeating Israel, it does nothing for the climate in that region. In recent years, I see most of the Israeli actions being taken in RESPONSE to Palestinian or Hamas actions? Prove me wrong. Show me examples of Israel attacking settlements and killing people without either their being a bombing, rocket attack or a kidnapping. I see Israel bending over backwards in many ways to help the Palestinian authority, but there is nothing that can be done with a group that wants to see your entire people dead.

Anyway, here is the recent letter from Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the American
people:

I think you can all access that letter.  If not, let me know.

So is Ahmadinejad saying anything that is patently false or disturbing?
I read through it quickly and, giving him the benefit of the doubt here
and there, I think he makes a lot of good points.

Check out what gentle peacenik Jimmy Carter is saying about Israel:

Of course, not everyone agrees with him...

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/middle_east/july-dec06/carter_11-28.html

...but are Carter's *facts* wrong?  Is it not true that Israel was holding
more than 9,000 Palestinian prisoners including many women and hundreds of
children at the time when Palestinians kidnapped a single Israeli soldier?
Is it not true that Israel (with the [almost pathologically] strong
support and encouragement of Bush/Rice) massively overreacted to this
minor event?  Is it not true that the reporting in the US was highly
slanted to favor Israel?
