So it's 50 degrees warmer in Maryland than in Minneapolis. That's
probably a much bigger difference than we normally see. I think it
would usually be about 15 degrees different.
I'm thinking more like 25 degrees, at least when you get deeper into
winter. The average high there in January is like, what, 10 F?
No, it is warmer than that. Here are averages for January, by day, from
1971 to present:
http://climate.umn.edu/doc/twin_cities/climate_calendar/ccjanuary.htm
The monthly average high is about 22°F. People always think it is colder
here than it really is (even the people who live here!). It is the
coldest major city in the country though. Last year (1/2005) was the
record average high for January: 28.6°F.
In any case, mid-70s is clearly unusual for this time of year. We would
be really in trouble if the bulk of the storm were headed our way. As it
is, I can predict that one of Milo's former classmates in Columbia will
point out that they just got 16 inches of snow (or whatever) and my son
is going to be absolutely furious...
Ha!
