Yes, and apparently negative campaigning follows cycles and it is more prevalent this year than it has been in a while. The Democrats are going negative because the Republicans have been in power and are an easy target. The Republicans are going negative (according to experts) because they need to convince people who might vote for a Democrat to stay home instead. Altogether, the Republican ads are more negative and more personal, and even more misleading or inaccurate, than are the Democrat ads. See this newspaper article:
