This quote gives some historical context to what John Kerry has said in

But it is irrelevant because, as you know, he wasn't talking about the
troops the other day.
Is what John Kerry said true? Is the United States Military full of poor
black and brown people? The answer is no.
It was poor, black and brown. Not poor black and brown. The difference
is that the comma means that the poor are not necessarily black and brown.
Here is a quote from a report that proves him wrong:
"Recruits have a higher percentage of high school graduates and
representation from Southern and rural areas. No evidence indicates
exploitation of racial minorities (either by race or by race-weighted
ZIP code areas). Finally, the distribution of household income of
recruits is noticeably higher than that of the entire youth population"

Well, high school graduates. Those guys are really going places!
Regarding household income: "We approximate each recruit's household
income by using the median household income of his or her hometown ZIP
code." Such precision. Also, you should look at what was happening in
1985, say. Who was serving then? How did things change after 9/11?
Another really good thing to check out is this movie...
Why We Fight (2006)

...which I watched last night on DVD. Eisenhower's warnings about the
"military-industrial complex" are chilling. It was interesting to see
Eisenhower's original notes in which he had planned to call it the
"military-industrial-congressional complex!" Everyone should know about
this.
You know what they say about the Heritage Foundation: "If Heritage says
it, it must be true!" Er, wait, that wasn't it. I meant to say "If
Heritage says it, it must be promoting a conservative political agenda."
There, that's it. Here's their web page:

Yes, I don't trust their "research."
As for the "Just doing my job" line. Every soldier in the world has used
that line and that doesn't make them all war criminals.
I only had in mind the ones that had actually committed war crimes.
Suggesting that all soldiers who served in Iraq are because of what less
than 20 did at Abu Ghraib is very closed minded.
Did somebody do that, Jerry? No. How very Rovian of you.
