I think that Bush is making a substantive statement. By "substantive" I do not mean that it is correct or incorrect, but rather that he is actually making a statement with content which one can agree or disagree. Thus this statement is one that the media SHOULD pick up on, and discuss properly.

There wasn't much substance there. In fact, the interesting thing is that the statement is extremely vague and could be interpreted in many ways. I don't like having a president who says such things. It is an embarrassment to our country.

You might have noticed that the latest Republican scheme is to say "Do you want to win in Iraq?" and try to get peopole to say "yes" then respond with "Well, you'd better vote Republican then because the Democrats will cut and run." It's childish. Here's how David Letterman dealt with Bill O'Reilly:

I don't think that Bush is accusing democrats of being traitors. That interpretation is pushing his statement too far.

Bush lets other people do that for him. Rove has made some pretty amazing statements along those lines.

June 2005:

"Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for
war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare
indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers."

When Democrats said that Rove should resign for making such crazy remarks, "Congressional Republicans joined the White House in standing solidly behind Rove..." Reference:

Last week:

"And if leading Democrats have their way, our nation will be weaker and
the enemies of our nation will be stronger."
