Like any protocol it needs routing set-up in order to work and to handle
issues with multiple devices behind a router. Most routers aren't
pre-configured for this kind of use so you're just out of luck if you
can't get the admin to set things up for you. So while great in theory,
in practical terms, WiFi phones aren't really ready for real use. I'd
like to see a decent cell phone w/ wifi support that'd use wifi when it
was available and cell when not. They need to work out routing better
too so that it doesn't require any special effort on the part of the
user or network admin.
Right. I get it. We have Skype on our PCs but the routing isn't set up,
so a call rings on both PCs. I guess the router is just broadcasting the
signal out to all of them. If that were to happen at Starbucks, it would
be pretty annoying!
