Those look like good movies. If I get the chance I'll try to view them.

Did you ever get a chance to see the "Testimony" life of Shostakovich movie? It came out on DVD very recently. I actually bought myself a copy even though it was $30. Admittedly the sound and visual quality isn't great, but I still think of it as a crowning artistic achievement.

I just watched "Hawaii" yesterday and thought some of you would be interested in it if you hadn't seen it before. It's on DVD:

It came out in 1966 and was nominated for 7 Academy Awards. It is very well acted. I do wonder if the characterization of events is accurate. It is a novel, but even an historical novel should try to portray a time and place correctly. For example, did local girls really have sex with sailors for scraps of cloth? Did the Hawaiian leaders not object to that?

Along similar lines, I think I've said before that I really liked "Black Robe" (1991):

The thing that really hit me was the harshness of nature and the need people have for one another in this world. Also, there is a lot of interesting stuff about religion and culture. I think it is a much better film that Hawaii but it didn't get the same kind of recognition (no star power, not as big of a budget).
