Michael,
Some would also say that is wisdom, or at least life experiences stepping in.
The idea is to come up with all of these wonderful ideas when you are
young and energetic, but save them for when you are older and then get
a bunch of young energenic guys to make it happen.
Being innovative does not have to end at 30. In fact, if you are still
exercising that muscle you will be in better positions to make those
dreams come true after 30, or at least you should be.
I find the biggest obstacle to a lot of my ideas is the minutia.

I'd say mine have come from periods of depression and stress and by just
not having time to do anything but your work and sleep pattern. I get up
at 8am for work and often don't get home until 8pm. By the time you eat
dinner it's time for bed. I do usually work on my own projects for about
four to six hours a night but my work is no where as energetic,
creative, or successful as when I could work pretty much 24 hours a day
on it. What a loss for everyone.
I guess that sounds egotistical but I know how quickly I devoured
information and came up with solutions to hard problems.. there was a
lot of potential to make the world better there which is now mostly
gone. I'd like to see us, humanity, provide better environments for our
young geeks to work in as I think it'd make us progress much faster.
From about 12 to 32 seems the peak years for geeks as well as it is for
professional sports players and geeks have a lot more to offer so why
not give them the resources they need? I peaked at 17 due to a
combination of girl and financial problems - we could at least take care
of the financial issues. ;)
