I'm not happy that Bush is failing. I wanted him to succeed!! He wanted
to go after terrorists and defend America and I was all for it. The
extent to which he would drop the ball was gradually revealed to me and,
of course, I had to take a firm position against him. By the time of the
2004 election, I was quite adamant about Bush being a bad President, but
that wasn't the case in 2001.
This is nonsense Mike. If you want someone to succeed, you support
them. You try and guide them through the decision making process by
letting them know what you believe is right.
Let me ask you this, do you want your son to succeed? Do you support
your son? Those are personal questions and I ask them only
hypothetically, I don't want you to answer them. However, if the
answer to those questions is yes, then you have to continue to support
your son when he fails to live up to your standards in the hope that
he will "come around".
At some point, I am sure you might right him off when things seem
lost, each person is going to have their own breaking point in that
area and your tolerance of support for Bush was a very very low
threshold. So low in fact that now you see everything through close
minded glasses. Everything he does now is bad in your eyes even if
there is actually some good in there.
I only hope that when and if a democrat takes over you exude that same
level of tolerance. Indications so far show that you will not show
that same level of tolerance but it remains to be seen.
The reason I support Bush still is because he is acting as a leader
should be acting. After 8 years of wishy-washy, it is comforting to
know that we have someone who will make the tough decisions, and yes,
even the bad decisions. The old saying goes, you can tell the leaders
by the arrows in their back. Bush is making the decisions he said he
was going to make, and he is doing it despite being disliked by the
American people.
I hear repeated arguments here: The Iraq War was a lie, and the deficit.
I personally do not care a wit about the deficit? Will our kids have
to pay all this money back? Yes, likely they will, just as we have to
pay back the deficits driven up by our parent's. A government with a
surplus, is a government that is overtaxing its people. Face it, the
Government is not suited for redistributing wealth, it is too
expensive. Just ask France.
I still have to argue that I don't think Bush lied on the Iraq War, I
think he was ill-informed and likely he failed in his leadership
responsibility in listening to his people, but I don't think he lied.
Do I want a nationwide established religion? That is something that is
thrown up here all the time as something I am for, and you would be
further from the truth. I do not think you have the right to not be
offended, no more than I have the same right. If a predominately
Muslim community elected a Muslim cleric to office, I would not have a
problem with that anymore than I have a problem with a Christian in
the same situation. Yet it seems at every turn that just being a
lowers us to some sort of second class human being. It certainly seems
that way through Mike's responses.
