What model Yaris were you looking at? That price seems a bit high from
what I can see on edmunds.com.

Here's a trick that I taught my co-worker for buying cars. Go to
edmunds.com. Spec out the car that you want and get the invoice price.
Now go here,
http://www.edmunds.com/advice/incentives/holdback/index.html , and find
the dealer holdback. That's extra cash the manufacturer gives the
dealer just for moving the unit. Now, make a spreadsheet like this:

2007 Toyota Yaris, Automatic transmission
Base Invoice 11,138
Side airbags 559

Total Invoice: 11,697
Holdback: -237

Dealer Price: 11,460
Profit: 600
Total: 12,060

Now, go to http://www.toyota.com/. Find all the dealers that you're
willing to drive to (I contacted every dealer within 4 hours drive).
Either e-mail the spreadsheet to the internet sales department or fax it
to them. Indicate that the *total* price is what you're willing to pay.
Wait for people to contact you. If nobody does, then try upping the
price you're willing to pay, maybe by $100 or so. The profit number I
used was around 5%, but alter it to what you think is appropriate. With
my car, the percentage was less, but the total amount was more (plus
it's easy to get super deals on Euro delivery BMWs for a variety of
interesting reasons).

This method worked great for me and it worked great for my co-worker a
week ago on a new CR-V. Honestly, I'd definitely go for the new Yaris
over the Civic if for no other reason than you can get it with side
airbags. If you don't don't think side airbags make a difference, look
at this:
