So it is possible for a man to resist the will of God?

While your question is interesting, I don't see how it arises in the context of what I wrote.

I think the question bears on the current discussion by pointing to an apparent contradiction in that Pontius Pilat was carrying out God's Will, yet his wickedness would still damn him. If the Will of God is irresistible, then doesn't than cancel out the entire concept of free will? Not to mention the intentional damning of those carrying out God's Will.

Mike's specific question seemed rather odd to me, because there was nothing I had said that implied that it was possible for man to resist God's will.

The point you bring up - doesn't God's will being irrestistable cancel out the concept of free will - is definitely an interesting question. I think that I have to answer "no" because otherwise the Bible doesn't make any sense. I think that Proverbs 16:9 makes the point well:

In his heart a man plans his course,
but the LORD determines his steps.
