The counter argument is whether you'd like to compromise your principles
to vote for the winner.
Personally, I think we have a little too much compromise. It's one thing
to try to find common ground on tough issues, it's entirely another to
attempt to placate every single person's whim.
People in this country appear to have reached the point where there's an
expectation that they have the right to never be offended by anything or
anyone. To those people, I suggest a nice cabin in the wilderness next
to a cliff. Once upon a time, the suggesting that the world was round
offended people...
