Nice liberal country they have there. Give away all the benefits and
make the rich pay for their fair share. Then as the power continues to
go down because the poor cannot pay for it, cut down the rich to only
having 6 hours per day of electricity. Of course the criminals who
have been stealing for all those years don't have to worry about it,
they keep their power on as long as they want.
The problem is electricity, like water, sewer, telephone, and Internet,
should be a public service for the good of society. Of course the
problem being that such a small portion of their society has the money
to pay in taxes to support the system and their government is so weak
that they can't really force those that do to pay. Luckily a lot of well
off foreigners (ie Americans) have been moving into their country in
fairly high numbers and even more are visiting. So, in theory, taxing
these people should be able to pay for the infrastructure they need and
make it all the more hospitable, for people used to places like the US
where these services are common, thus encouraging more of these rich
foreigners to move there.
Not that I expect Americans to care. Such a selfish short-sighted
country. We're the richest country there is and we still don't provide
these basic services to all of our own citizens. Pitiful. We have the
money to guarantee that every citizen has an education, housing,
services, medical care etc but it's more important for us all to have
three cars, 5000sqft houses, a big plasma tv, etc. Not that I don't want
these things but at least I try to balance my wants with other peoples
needs. Is it more important that I buy some new crap that'll amuse me
for a few hours or to make sure somebody out there has a meal on their
table?
If I bought a house there I'd be glad to let my spare electricity be
used by neighbors. Over time I'd even try to add additional solar
panels, or whatever I was using, to provide more for my neighborhood.
I'd try to do the same thing here but it's probably illegal. God forbid
someone be a good neighbor here. It could damage somebodies chance at
keeping their monopoly.
Mike would love it there.
Not the Mike you meant but I've considered moving there.
