If the court had any sense, they would have written a reasonable
definition of "sex" or "sexual relations." The court screwed up, left
an opening, and Clinton took it. He's a lawyer, just like most
Presidents and most Senators, Congressmen and Governors, so you should
expect him to follow the letter of the law in this kind of situation.
So perhaps the same holds true for Bush, the congress should have
written a law that spelled out exactly what the president could and
could not do, but since they failed to do that, they left a door open
for Bush, who took it. Bush might not be a lawyer, but he has some at
his disposal after all.
We'll see where it goes. The Congress has been failing us lately. We
have a system of "checks and balances," but only if each branch is willing
to check on the other.
I haven't studied these laws, so it is possible that it will turn out that
Bush did not break the law. In that case you will be correct. Of course,
another important difference between Bush and Clinton is that in the Bush
case a law was produced specifically for the purpose of requiring that the
President's wiretapping activities be monitored. There was no law written
specifically to force the President to reveal details of his sex life.
Cheating, killing and stealing? I suppose you have evidence to back up
those claims? I could even ask you if you have evidence that Bush lied?
How many have died in Iraq? 100,000+ Iraqis because of the war, so far,
and 2,000+ US soldiers. That's large-scale killing.
Cheating? Lying? Look at the lead-up to the war in Iraq. There was tons
of deceipt there. I'm not going to waste my time writing down details for
someone who doesn't care. If you want to know about it, you'll read about
it. There's tons of information out there.
Stealing? Well, the national debt is increasing at a dramatic rate.
Where do you think that money is going? It is lining his friend's pockets
in the oil industry, for one -- they could be taxed at a reasonable rate,
but they wont' be. The wealthy are not paying their share. The war is
expensive because so much money has to go to munitions manufacturers and
companies like Halliburton. Read about Jack Abramoff. Bush knew Abramoff
perfectly well and he lied about that.
There is lots of evidence, Vern. What is happening couldn't be much
plainer, but some people will never accept it. Photographic evidence and
confessions wouldn't be enough to convict some of these guys with people
like you on the jury.
