$143.11 for 4GB CF card.
$9.73 for CF to IDE interface.
Starting on an article about building a compact flash based Linux system
so I went ahead and bought the parts for a new system so I can build and
document it step by step. I thought I'd post the numbers and links here
for anyone else who might want to try building one. Total cost for these
parts is $152.84 including S&H and tax. Probably less for those of you
who don't live in CA. 1GB is big enough for a command-line based Linux
box (running Fedora) and 2GB is enough for it to run Gnome and the major
apps. 4GB gives you room to spare for a few user files. A normal hdd,
network-based drive, or thumb drive can be used for user files. I
suggest moving the tmp and log dirs to ramdrives. Gotta be sure to turn
off atime too.
