The first I heard of djvu was a couple of days ago when I read a rant
about the New Yorker using a DRM-enabled version of it for their
magazine-on-DVD collection.
At any rate, one of the main issues I see is the installed base of PDF
users. History is rife with examples of a superior technology losing
out to a less-proficient but more-popular one.
We use Acrobat at work in dealing with plans and other construction
documents. I'm going to look into the use of djvu, as it seems to be
good at dealing with line drawings and text. I hope though, that the
tools involved are able to do things like rearrange pages, create one
big djvu document from multiple smaller ones, etc. I use these features
of Acrobat all the time and really can't live without them. The only
other hold-up I see is trying to explain to subcontractors where to go
get the plug-in/etc. to read these files. I have a hard enough time
avoiding these issues with PDF and that's with 95% of them already
having it installed.

So questions come up periodically about getting hardcopy stuff onto
the web. Here's another idea:

As far as I understand it, this suggests that one can possibly look
forward to having a lot of stuff on-line in a readable (if not
searchable) format more easily than one might think. I'm amused. (I
became aware of this when a book that gone into the PD pointed out
that you could download it in djvu format at 6 MB, or the scanned PDF
at 32 MB...
