I'll just say one thing about the part of the State of the Union address
that I saw: It was very well done. Bush gets an A from me for his
delivery and the speech writer gets an A+. It was very effective. I
don't trust Bush and I don't believe what he was saying but he did better
than ever in the last 15 minutes of that speech (I missed the rest of it).
The democratic response was not better. They had some good things to say,
but the Bush speech was hard to respond to in a positive way without
helping to promote Bush. The "there's a better way" line was OK, but it
wasn't really convincing me -- it was too much of a repetitive slogan.
Of course, this is all about effectiveness of political manipulation and
it doesn't work on me. My feelings about Bush are the same as ever. I
always knew that he could read, hire a good speech writer, and be trained
to turn in the right directions at certain times. Maybe I should give
Karl Rove the credit, but I don't really know who calls the shots in this
administration.
Mike
