"The use of the word 'annoy' is particularly problematic," says Marv
Johnson, legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union.
"What's annoying to one person may not be annoying to someone else."
Here's an opportunity for some of you to appreciate the work of the ACLU.
I know it is difficult for some of you, for some reason, but here is a
nice example. They defend freedom of speech.
If President Bush truly believed in the principle of limited government
(it is in his official bio), he'd realize that the law he signed cannot
be squared with the Constitution he swore to uphold.
We should consider the possibility that Bush doesn't care about the
Constitution and he would in fact like to undo it and place more power in
his own hands.
Bush has the chance to show his respect for what he calls Americans'
personal freedoms. Now we'll see if the president rises to the occasion.
Maybe the opportunity is to advance government control over citizens and
to advance the welfare of wealthy people who can afford attorneys over
the rights of those of us who cannot afford them. You can guess what I
think Bush will do.
