In the meantime, millions of innocent children will die of starvation. Will the Christian obsession with embryos ever shift to compassion for starving children? That's my wish for the future: That Christians in the U.S. stop obsessing about stem cells and the unborn and pushing their morality on people who don't want it, and they start worrying about living, breathing people who don't have enough food to eat, a descent home to live in, a loving family to care for them, etc.

When will the scientists stop obsessing with getting stem cells from embryos when there are sources that provide the exact same products that don't necessitate the destruction of an embryo? Umbilical stem cells can be donated by any parent that wishes to contribute to stem cell research. I think that I myself might be willing provided there were enough in quantity to save some back for the therapudic reasons they currently harvest umbilical stem cells and to have some excess for research purposes.

Could someone explain to me how these other sources of stem cells work? Are umbilical cord cells only useful to the same person in later years, or can other people use them?
