I've said it before, I'll say it again. The ACLU definitely has its
radical element, but by and large they're the only ones out there with
an organized effort to defend the Bill of Rights (except the 2nd
amendment of course, but that's why we have the NRA). They are also
very consistent (actually NRA is too) which to me is impressive in this
day of posturing and politiking. I've seen them stand up for Nazis,
ultra-right wingers, etc. Although their free speech stance definitely
tends toward the liberal side, they still practice what they preach
regardless of who they're helping.
