Religions tell you to believe some particular things, but in science you
are not supposed to believe any particular thing. Science would be a
"belief system" only in that the scientist maintains a degree of
skepticism about all truth claims and that skepticism can be weakened only
by evidence. That's the system. More evidence leads to more "belief",
but is "belief" the right word? Maybe "confidence" is better.
