I'd like to find good budgeting software out there that someone else has
had experience with.
It can be Mac or Win, but I would like it to be free and GPL or similar
if possible.
Several years ago I bought the late Larry Burkett's budgeting & money
management software called "Money Matters Gold", but hated to say that I
hated it. ( Crown.org)
I also tried Quicken or QuickBooks Pro a long while ago. Hated it.
I liked the 'envelope system' used by Money Matters, but it suffered
from the same stupid drawback Quicken had, namely no good allowance for
the month to month variances in usage bills like electricity, gas,
water, etc. They treated everything as fixed.
I also hated the three day long setup questionnaire where few of the
questions and answer choices applied to my finances. It was more
agonizing by far that Tax or FAFSA forms, and when I was done, I had a
profile that just didn't work for my situation.
Does anyone know of an open source/GPL software package (preferably that
they've tried) that would allow budgeting and financial planning without
the limitations and hassles I've described above.
Many thanks...
P.s., I'd be even happier if it had allowances for charitable
contributions, non-taxed income that I will have to pay taxes for, and
perhaps Tithing (though not a rock solid 10%.. it's just not feasible
right now [Neither is Christmas :( ], and we like to divvy up what we do
give to different targets like Christian Children's Fund and supporting
staff for the Rock here on Campus, Open Arms Crisis Pregnancy Center,
etc). None of the other programs would let that 'envelope' be split
into smaller sub-envelopes and then prioritized as ones that HAD to be
made each month (pledges) and the more 'offering-plate' type of tithing.
Thanks.
