I've got one. Probably an older revision than what you have though. Works like a champ. I get 2.5Mb+ download from Charter in STL.
I'm running one of the 'other' firmware versions. DDWRT if I remember correctly, but I've been through several, so I could be wrong.
I remember reading that the QoS that Linksys was shipping was not very good. I'd make sure that it is turned off. Other than that, it sounds like you're heading the right direction, try the d-link, make sure you power-cycle the cable modem whenever you switch devices, then see what Linksys has to say about it.

anyone have one? did you notice a performance issue? i'm trying to
understand why when connected to my mediacom cable modem, my download
speed is ~50kbps? and, that's both wired and unwired use. when
directly plugged into my modem i get ~600kbps.
i've been reading some of the linksys support topics...but nothing
seems to really match my problem. i've yet to plug my old d-link back
in to see if it is having the same problem, but it just seems really
strange to me.
it is a brand new router. purchased last sunday at best buy. factory
defaults yield slow connections. i've tried playing with settings, but
the result is always the same.
i'm not sure if i should try using a different, open-source firmware
package on it already to get better performance or just call linksys
and find out if something can be done.
i'm just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem?
