Tell them it's a musical instrument and they HAVE to let it on. *grin*

All my musical lists, Uilleann Pipes, Mandolin, Woodenflute, Hammered Dulcimer, Blugrass, Ir-Trad, have a discussion about traveling with instruments about once every two months ( you think the topic would be discussed to death by then).

Basically it boils down to a lot of quoting of TSA regs and the fact that they have to let you take a valued musical instrument into the climate/environmentally controlled area.

Just don't try to take an electronic Great Highland Bagpipes practice chanter in a homemade pvc tube carrying case on. That's strictly a no-no.

Seriously, last time I had a poster tube, that and my computer were my only allowed carry-ons, and they made me check the other bag at check in.

That's ridiculous. Well, I avoided the problem last time by having my poster made by these guys...

...and FedExed to my hotel. They did a great job and everything worked out. I guess I was lucky on the way back because I had the poster, the computer and the carry-on bag and no one said a word. You are supposed to be able to have a carry-on bag, computer and "man purse" (that's what one of the airline workers called it) -- so why isn't the poster a long, thin "man purse"?
