if you are doing tape backups on servers, do you encrypt the backup, or is
it even an option for the backup software that you are using?
encryption adds a layer of security, but it also seems to add more risk
that one might not be able to restore a file successfully from tape.
there seems to be pros/cons for both viewpoints.
ie. "backups exist to make data accessible, encryption exists to make data
inaccessible"
thoughts?
