I'd suggest you also take into account the quality of life out there. I lived
in SD for three years and experienced as a corner of paradise. It is just
gorgeous. IMHO, this would offset some of the higher price. But then I had
the flexibility of work hours that allowed me to evade rush hour traffic.
Also, there is the occasional affordable home as long as you stay away from La
Jolla.
Just my 2 cents.
