donno much about solar flares, but apparently the sun just release a big solar flare..."792". Luckily, the earth doesn't appear to be in its path, but one might wonder what would happen if a big solar flare is emitted and the earth happens to be in its path.

Sunspot 792 is an X-class flare....x-class flares "are major events that can trigger planet-wide radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms"
