Is it possible to make gmail display messages using a fixed-spaced font

Cut and paste into vi? :-D
That is actually a good suggestion. This is mostly for me to send stuff
like this to my son:
e|-------------|---------------|-------------|-------------
B|-------------|---------------|-------------|-------------
G|---0---3---5-|---0---3---6-5-|---0---3---5-|---3--0-0----
D|---0---3---5-|---0---3---6-5-|---0---3---5-|---3--0-0----
A|-------------|---------------|-------------|-------------
E|-------------|---------------|-------------|-------------
It should line up in columns. I can teach him to copy/paste to Notepad
because he's always on Windows. One of these years I'll get him into
Linux.
Seriously, does GMail have a POP or IMAP interface?
I believe the answer is yes for POP but I don't know about IMAP.
Here's what I'm doing for now:
(1) type plain text message
(2) save as file called message.html
(3) put <HTML><PRE> at the beginning and
(4) put </HTML></PRE> at the end
(5) send message.html as an attachment
This works well because Gmail automatically recognizes URLs and makes them
clickable. It keeps columns lined up properly.
Believe me, I'd rather not use attachments for something so simple, but as
long as Gmail doesn't allow the user to choose a fixed-space font, and I
can't use tags like <pre> in plain text messages, I'm stuck with HTML
attachments.
