I think the effort saved by being able to write code to an existing
platform far outweighs the benefits of a little less overhead. The
majority of the OS is identical for an OS for any purpose so it makes
sense to use a common code base and just trim out the parts you don't need.
I was thinking about this the other day, and I really wonder the utility
of using an operating system designed for a general use computer in an
embedded system.
