The wireless signals may not travel that far, but with a high
power antenna someone could pick up those weak wireless signals.

So for example, "average user" with a "Joe Blow" (TM) wireless card in his
laptop couldn't pick up your wireless network, but "mr. haxor" with his
"super-duper-WEP-key-crackin-laptop with a 400millamp leet wireless card
with gazillion db gain directional antenna" can pick up your wireless
network from his dorm room window.

So thus, you are partly correct that wireless signals are physically
limited, but even the weak signals that escape can be picked up if you
have a powerful enough "detector".

The ideal solution would be a room with lead walls (or something like
that) so the wireless signal is contained just to that specific room, but
then you have to look at practicality.
