A lot of questions here, so here goes my views.
I have a Bass Pod Pro I have been using for the last 3 years. It is a
good piece of equipment. It really does not do much for bass live
since most of the time the sound guys would rather have the basic
direct line sound without any modelling or effects.
In the recording studio though, this thing really shines. What I know
of the Bass Pod XT is that many people are not satisfied with it. So I
don't know. I like the Bass Pod though both live and recording.
Olga.net used to have listings for selling stuff, and I know
www.guitarworks.com has some forum listings for sales of equipment,
but I think it is about the same crap shoot at these places as you are
going to find on ebay. I have purchased a few pieces of musical gear,
"a couple of ADAT XTs, Electronic Drums, NS 10 speaker drivers and
such). I have always been pretty happy with the results.
I have seen some modules at the NAMM show a few years ago that did not
require a pickup, in fact the Yamaha G50 can be set to work from a
standard guitar pick-up. This unit is a little old though and I am
sure there is something better out there now. A friend of mine has one
of these units but he hardly plays it anymore. I am not sure if this
unit comes with a hex pick-up or not and it is quite on the pricey
side. My buddy had to buy his pick-up seperately, he ended up having
Brian Moore from Brian Moore guitars build him one in his new guitar.
