Just to take a different opinion than everyone else.. I'm being forced
to program on OS X for the first time. My new job uses an OS X desktop.
Argh it's painful. Even if you turn off the annoying things like the
magnification on the dock bar it's still not very user friendly. It has
the longtime Mac-ness of putting the app control across the top of the
screen. Pretty damn annoying. Then it won't let you put the dock at the
top of the screen. So far I've been unable to disable all the stupid
little animations that go along with minimizing windows. I was unable to
figure out how to pick a color of my own choice for the desktop. There
is something horribly wrong with the home, end, page up, and page down
keys in many apps. Resetting these keys in one app doesn't seem to
transfer to all apps. Cutting and Pasting may be even more annoying than
it is in Windows. The terminal program doesn't support tabs. Programs
appear to open lots of windows (that tend to overlap) but you can't
alt-tab between all those windows. For some reason Mozilla's
middle-click to open a link in a tab seems broken although I did make it
work in Safari. Safari is overall okay but it has CSS rendering bugs
that not even IE had. The file manager doesn't remember my choice
between different locations.. it must be set per location.
Okay, that was my whine list for today. I did however like the active
corners and the F9-F11 features.
