Outrageous indeed. It would appear that the superintendent in question
was quite a con man. Here's an even better article written earlier that
gives a lot more of the story, including the news that Frank Tassone was
in fact leading a double life. Apparently he had a taste for male
exotic dancers, among other things. This could well rank as one of the
scams of the century. I'd hope the guy gets what he deserves, IMHO
there is sometimes nearly as much malice in a long-running crime like
this than even some killings. By which I mean, this guy had night after
night to consider what he was doing and chose to keep doing it anyway,
stealing millions and betraying the trust of thousands of people. Yes,
murder is quite arguably the most severe crime in our culture but to me
a lot of cons run a close second.
