Coyotes have always been in Missouri. I remember in my younger days
going out and hunting them with my father. We used to use a record
player with recorded sounds of dieing rabbits. (Yes rabbits do make
sounds)
I doubt this practice is happening as much anymore. At one time
Coyotes were considerd varmit animals and could be killed anytime you
saw one. I am not sure if these laws have changed, but I do know that
since the fur trade has lessoned in recent years, coyotes have little
real value anymore.
The point is this: Coyotes have no real enemies other than man,
mountain lions, and bears. So I would imagine that you would start
seeing them turn up in the suburb locations just like you did in
Southern California as they move looking for food.
