There are some decent mail clients. They just aren't made for the volume
of mail that is the reality for some of us. Both Thunderbird and
Evolution are pretty good for their intended audience.

Gmail is sort of my role model. It was similar to my old mail processing
tools but not near as powerful. If I can work all these little kinks out
and put a good GUI on it then it'll be a nice tool. I don't know how
many people will use it though. It's sort of a mail client for people
that have information overload. I doubt that many people have millions
of email mesages collected. ;)
Then I have to decide if I should release any of my related tools. The
email database is part of a larger database that tracks files, websites,
etc. It's all intermingled. It's handy because then you can search and
browse the files that have been collected from your email along with
your personal files, files collected from websites you've visited, etc
all together. I think the email processing program is probably enough to
start with though as far as a public release. I was thinking of
releasing it all as a suite of programs that can be used individually or
together. This would just be FLOSS Email. Then maybe I could have FLOSS
File Manager, FLOSS Web Tracker, etc.
