Okay, it's official. This years CES pretty much sucked. Nothing there
was really innovative and there wasn't much in free goodies. Most of the
stuff there I'd already seen at Fry's. The highlight was that there were
quite a few hotties there pitching various stuff. Much more interesting
than the goods they were selling.
On the other hand, if you're looking for some cute new versions of
existing product you might expect to see some pretty cool stuff.
Everything from DVD players to vacuum cleaners have some cute new
versions coming to market. They had some intergrated DVD players +
televisions that were kind of fun. They have a somewhat 1950's retro
look to them but with modern technology and some bright colors. The kind
of thing you might give your kids.
The most useful product at show? Those cd/dvd snap on protective covers.
Not entirely new but very nice. Sadly they don't yet seem to have
realized that many DVD's are two-sided.
The most innovative product I did see? They had a company that had a
photo studio in a box. It's essentially a scanner for 3D objects and is
about the size of a dorm room fridge. You put an object on the tray
inside and it takes a high-quality photograph of the object against a
flat background in such a way that it's easy to get a good shot without
shadows and such. Very good for making product photos on a budget. I'd
say this is a must have for anyone that is dealing with product photos
(such as an online store).
The stupidest product I'd be likely to buy? A mousepad that looks like a
naked woman. The wrist rest was her boobs and yes they were made of
squishy jello type stuff. It'd be an amussing gag gift.
