Milo and I spotted 20 meteors in 15 minutes or so spent laying down
on a hill-side in the pitch blackness of the land off of Gillespie
Bridge Road. Since it was 19 out (then, according to the car
themometer) we declared victory and came home. The Geminids only have
a peak peak peak of maybe 120 per hour, which limits the spectacle,
but they never fall below about 40 per hour at the peak of any year,
which makes them one of the few sure things in meteor watching (that I
know of).

And it's too bad about the sprawl, but note that it supports the cool
art museums and stuff downtown, so you get something for it. :-)
