I'd say it matters because bullshit theories are those which most often 
are proved disfunctional. All they do is waste everybody's time and 
energy. Unfortunately a lot of those seem to make it into the mainstream 
press and then even if they are wrong they are nearly impossible to get 
rid of. The people spouting the least useful stuff are usually the 
loudest. Meanwhile those with huge important insights are often ignored 
for a long time. It's bad for us because it is hard to say what is based 
on insight and what is based on bullshit.
