Another thing to look at would be your distfiles dir. That dir
contains a source tarball of every package you have installed on your
system. After you've installed everything you don't need the tarball
again unless you want to reinstall something. Search the gentoo
forums for some more info on this. FYI, my portage dir is 3.9GB so
the more packages you experiment with the larger it gets.
