oops - They are actually called "conversations," not "discussions."
When I had 5,045 conversations in gmail and I deleted the final 45, gmail
showed a blank space where the message listing was shown and it said:
You don't have any mail! Our servers are feeling unloved.
I still had 5,000 conversations (collections of one or more messages on
the same subject) left. I had just done "select all" and "move to trash"
but "all" means the ones displayed on the current page. The claim that I
"don't have any mail" when I have 5,000 conversations in that folder is a
bit misleading!
