OK, so I personally don't have it yet, but you should be advised that
POP access to gmail is coming soon to all users:

It also looks like forwarding is getting some better support (with
filtering even) so I foresee a time when you can tell gmail to do the
right thing automagically when it comes to mail going into or out of
your account.

Really, Google does only use their super powers for good; never for evil.
