I think you would be an excellent candidate to volunteer for the
enhanced Google "Let me do whatever the heck I want to" gmail account,
which I suspect *will* be offered for a small fee. I'm not sure why
they're telling you they feel unloved, but it's probably a combination
of the fact that deleting messages is probably much harder with their
file system, and that those are missed opporunities to show you ads.
Ads are probably not your first priority, but I find them less than
evil. For that mater, I'm still only up to 3% of my account, and I
implicitly archive all of MLUG-Discussion in addition to a raft of
student papers and the like. Do you need to hold the line at 5K
messages?
OK, so I guess I need to admit that I've drunk the koolaid even more
deeply than that. I sometimes send email on a topic just to get the
(in my case very) well-targeted ads. It's kind of a 1% thing, but
that's more than zero.
Meanwhile, another interesting gmail event happened recently. I
caught a phish in my gmail account, which I was going to mark as spam,
but then I thought, "this isn't spam, this phishing; could there be a
"report phishing" action under more actions? A-yup, there was; took 5
seconds. The other end of the stick was pointing towards some paypal
bogosity. Could I report the abuse at their end? HAhahahaaa, oo, it
is to laugh.
