Another way to start deleting gmail messages is to go to the archive list,
select the oldest messages and start deleting. After the first batch, you
can delete 100 at a time. One problem - gmail is hanging terribly right
now and it isn't moving the messages to the Trash. This is either a gmail
feature or it is just a bad time. ... OK, now it's working better, so I
don't think it is a feature!
This actually isn't too bad - I can delete old messages 100 at a time and
keep up from getting too far behind.
