[MLUG - DISCUSSION] Cause for concern?

It was a difficult decision for me - but I ended up voting for Bush. However, my
concerns are just as valid today as they were last week. With gains in the
House, Senate, and the White House there is a lot of potential in the next 4
years. The Wars, Supreme Court Justices, Economy, Civil Liberties (Patriot Act,
Guns, 527s, etc.)

Bush is not a conservative - at least not as I define it (Reagan, Goldwater,
etc.)

I'm concerned about the massive deficit we've taken on (and I'm not saying I
disagree with taking it on). Is this a trend of Bush and Congress or a sign of
the fiscal necessities of a post-9/11 world (or both?)? 

I've not researched it, but it strikes me that this administration hasn't been
the best on the environment. With the fact that pretty much no one talked about
the environment and no one seems to much care right now - will we trample on it
over the next 4 years?

My next thing to research is stem-cells. Given my religious beliefs, how do I
feel about it? Is Bush taking a stand that goes too far into the "legislating
morality" area? 

I saw that close to 10 states all overwhelmingly voted a ban on same-sex
marriages. Will the next 4 years be taking a few steps back for the gay
community?

I would *really* like to see some heads roll in the Pentagon. Rummy has just got
to go.

I guess I now feel a little trepidations. Republicans have a lot of power to
throw around - the manner in which that is done is still up in the air. Finally
- I fear that if we go too far the pendulum will swing back the other way
big-time in 4 years.
